KITCHEN APPLIANCE Portfolio (2014-17)
Designing the Philips Kitchen Appliance Portfolio
From 2014-17, I got the opportunity to work as the design lead for Philips Kitchen Appliances in India. The cooking requirements in India are very unique from the rest of the world. We use mixer grinders on a daily basis for food preparations. They are similar to the blenders but with additional functionality.
Sharing below some of the mixer grinders designed during this tenure along with a process snapshot. One of the major challenges was to maintain the Philips design language and at the same time adding functionality and a unique design character in each model. All models shown here were launched in the market.

DESIGN DIRECTION
Understanding the Brand DNA and interpreting them into Design attributes.
SKETCHING
Multiple rounds of sketching was done to create the right balance in terms of aesthetics and usability.
MODELING & RENDERING
Explorations of 3D modelling were done in Creo 2.0 (ProEngineer) and renderings were done using Keyshot.
DESIGN FEATURE
The USP of the final design was it's unique shape (morphing triangle into a circle) This shape gave us the flexibility of using only 3 legs for the body instead of the conventional 4 legs. Hence saving cost without compromising with the product foot print. The monolithic shape with less grooves made it an easy to clean product. The rich color palette of an all black product body was also very new for the Indian Market which was dominated by 'White' appliances.
COLOR, MATERIAL & FINISH
Various Color explorations were done and validated with the customers before finalization.
PACKAGING DESIGN
The packaging was designed so that the customer gets maximum communication about the product just by the look of it. Specific detailing was done to make sure that the packaging is attractive, communicates the product USP well, and looks fresh on the shop floor. My responsibilities included creation of all renders and visualizations along managing the layouts and communication.

Product Lineup
New Products were created to add to the Kitchen Appliance Lineup which continued to used the similar design grammar.
